Learn how to review receipt submissions, resolve flagged issues, and manage spot checks in the Loyalty Console to ensure accurate receipt processing and validation.
Receipt review and manual claim handling
When a user submits a receipt, the Loyalty Engine automatically scans and processes the submission. If the receipt passes all configured rules and validation checks, it is either authorized or rejected automatically. However, if the system cannot determine a clear outcome, the receipt is flagged for manual review.
Scenarios requiring manual review
Receipt submissions are flagged for manual review in the following cases:
Incomplete data extraction: The automated scanning system cannot extract all required data from the receipt.
Receipt rule abstention: A receipt rule with a verdict set to ‘abstain’ flags the receipt for manual review.
Unlinked basket line items: A receipt contains line items that could not be automatically matched to a predefined product.
Spot checks: A percentage of authorized or rejected receipts are flagged for manual review as part of routine quality assurance.
Receipts flagged for manual review appear in the Pending Review tab under Receipts > Claims in the Loyalty Console. Receipts automatically processed are found in either the Authorized or Rejected tabs.
Reviewing receipt claims
To review a receipt claim:
Identify the reason for manual review
Click the Review button next to the receipt claim in the Pending Review tab.
Navigate to the Show button within the claim to view a list of all receipt rules applied during processing.
Rules that passed are marked with a green checkmark. Rules that failed or triggered the system to abstain are flagged with a note explaining the issue.
Perform a manual review if required
In rare cases where the system cannot authorize or reject the claim even after corrections, you can override the decision by performing a manual review.
Click Add a Manual Review and complete the following fields:
Verdict: Choose to authorize, abstain, or reject the claim.
Reason: Select a reason for the manual decision.
Comments: Add internal notes for clarity and future reference.
Save the manual review to finalize the receipt’s processing.
If manual reviews are frequently required, consult your Account Manager to ensure the receipt rules are correctly configured and optimized.
Configuring spot checks
Spot checks allow you to flag a percentage of receipts for manual review, ensuring the Loyalty Engine is accurately processing submissions. This feature provides additional oversight for both authorized and rejected receipts.
To configure spot checks:
Go to Settings > General > Receipt in the Loyalty Console.
Activate the Spot Check toggle.
Set percentages for:
Authorizations Check %: The percentage of authorized receipts to flag for manual review.
Rejections Check %: The percentage of rejected receipts to flag for manual review.
Save your settings.
Setting either percentage to 100% ensures all receipts in that category are flagged for manual review.

Best practices for receipt reviews
Regularly monitor receipts flagged for manual review to identify common causes and adjust receipt rules if necessary.
Use spot checks strategically to maintain oversight without creating an excessive review workload.
